In order to do this in a satisfactory way, it was advisable that [should consider the case of the American, travelling London ward, from the outset of his journey. The plan which suggested itself as the most convenient was, that (with his good leave) he and I should start from New York or Boston in company, so to say, our purpose being to reach the English capital with as little delay as possible and see London of to-day together.
