This report, "U. S. Science and Technology for Development: A Contribution to the 1979 U. N. Conference," was prepared by the National Research Council, a private organization. The Department of State asked the Council to suggest activities that the U. S. government might consider - for increased support within available resources - as means of helping developing countries apply science and technology in support of their own development programs. This report is neither a statement of U. S. government policy nor a recommendation by National Research Council that the entire range of suggested activities should or could be supported by the U. S. government.
