Summary

Teaching for Mastery in Mathematics is a comprehensive guide which will support primary teachers who are keen to adopt a mastery approach in their classrooms. It features practical guidance on the intricacies of mastery pedagogy alongside some 'food for thought' that will inspire teachers to make positive changes to their classroom practice.

The UK's poor performance in international league tables has put pressure on schools to provide a solution to this problem that will allow pupils to compete better internationally and this, in turn, prompted a move towards a mastery approach in teaching and learning. But how does a school use mastery effectively? What does it take to fix this problem? Can mastery be rapidly explored and adopted? This book provides a clear overview on what teaching for mastery in mathematics is and guides readers through a subject that can seem hard to navigate. In doing so, Louise Seeley explains how every teacher can get started and establish mastery as an integral part of everyday teaching.

Foreword

Teaching for Mastery in Mathematics sets out to demystify the world of research and literature that surrounds mastery for primary classroom teachers. It covers theory and practice and includes thought-provoking case studies. Louise Seeley uses her wealth of experience to explain how every teacher can use mastery successfully in mathematics and across the curriculum.
