Al tempo di Erodoto i babilonesi confor mandosi alle costumanze de' loro dominatori, medie persiani, ebbero cara e pregiata la rosa, e ne portarono perfino l'immagine scolpita in sul bastone. Del resto la Persia, dal cielo ridente e dalle aure profumate da molli e soavi balsami, fu sempre la patria delle rose, ed oggidi ancora può dirsi la terra de'fiori. Presso Teheran la rosa cresce ad una perfezione che invano si cerche rebbe altrove, e più che in qualunque altro luogo, vi è stimata e desiderata.
