Une partie de la Lombardie s'était soulevée, on annonçait que Nice était pris par les Anglais, que Condé arrivait par la Suisse, que Beaulieu avait une armée de 60000 hommes. Les prêtres, les moines, le poi gnard et le crucifix à la main, excitaient à la révolte et prêchaient l'assassinat.
