Excerpt from Köpnickerstraße 120
Gustav von moser, the author of K'o'pm'céerstrasse 120, takes much the same place in German dramatic literature that Labiche does in France. Both show great sponta neity, with an inexhaustible ¿ow of wit and effervescing spirit which sparkles so brightly on the surface that it sel dom lets us see into the depths even of shallow characters. And yet, though their plays do not touch great problems and seldom rouse even a thoughtful smile, they are so full of comic verve, so true in their good-natured re¿ection of the foibles of average humanity, that they have long been the favorites of their theatre-going countrymen, and perhaps because of their very limitations, they are best fitted to make a foreigner's early steps in these foreign tongues pleasant as well as profitable.
