Informationen zum Autor Ziauddin Sardar was born in Pakistan in 1951 and grew up in east London. He has worked as Muslim and Middle East correspondent for Nature , New Scientist and the Independent and has made programmes for Channel 4, London Weekend Television and the BBC. He has published over forty books, including Desperately Seeking Paradise , and contributes to the Observer, New Statesman, Independent , Evening Standard and Daily Mail . He is Visiting Professor of Postcolonial Studies at City University, London. Klappentext Raised in Pakistan, Ziauddin Sardar learned the Koran at his mother's knee. As a young student in London, he embarked on a quest to grasp the meaning and contemporary relevance of his religion and, hopefully, to find "paradise." After experimenting with the mystical branch of Islam, Sufism, and with classical Islam, he set off on extensive travels through the Muslim world. Along the way, he came to accept that he might never reach paradise, realizing that it's the journey that's important. At a time when the Western view of Islam is so often distorted and over-simplified, "Desperately Seeking Paradise" is essential reading. Zusammenfassung Ziauddin Sardar is one of the foremost Muslim intellectuals in Britain! and this is his account of his life as a restless believer.
