Non Motorized Transport offers the opportunity for developing countries to tackle the worsening situation of accessibility in urban areas. Non motorized transport is increasingly being used in developed countries compared to developing countries apparently because the management and regulatory frameworks are still very weak. This research evaluated the management and utilization of non motorized transport in Dar es Salaam city. It identified actors who were responsible for implementation of non motorized transport. The study made an exploration of the opportunities that Non Motorized Transport could offer if it was managed effectively. At the same time the research detected the challenges that hindered effective utilization of non motorized transport and the policy implications of NMT. This report reveals that there was poor management of Non Motorized Transport. Non Motorized Transport facilities were not sufficient to cater for the fast increase in population, besides the available NMT facilities were not in good condition.
