Non si può nemmeno parlare di abito giovanile, perchè la principale differenza tra giovani ed adulti si osserva nel colore delle grandi cuopritrici alari, che nei primi alla base sono di un nero-grigiastro più o meno chiaro con larghi apici bianchi; mentre negli adulti le basi sono bianche e gli apici pure bianchi con una fascia subterminale nera molto larga.
