IN this first attempt to present to the public a popular History and Topography of Nottinghamshire, with a Directory of its Inhabitants, the Author has to acknowledge his unbounded gratitude to the literary and official gentlemen of the county, forthe valuable and interesting communications with which they have furnished him, in answer to his multifarious enquiries -and also to the numerous Subscribers who have favoured him with their support to such a liberal extent that their orders amount to upwards of 300 copies more than the number printed.
