The small tubes are composed of cells united with bne another, which are Closed at their extremities; their walls or partitions are frequently provided with pores; in the embryo they are not yet evolved; they may be observed in lsome lichens. Placed round The large tubes, thev malie the ligneous filaments in zthe single seed-leaves (monocotvledons) and in the ldouble seed leaves (dicotyledons), being arranged round the marrow and 'the large tubes, they compose the ligneous strata they frequently fill and obstruct the large tubes.
