An antiquary views with respect the district which sagged the labours of Dugdale; the commercial speen lator is prepared to treat with regard a county whose mann factues add so largely to the' stack of national wealth and im portance; while every also must look with kindly inclination on that part of the island which produced England's great poetical ornament; for smpearr appeals with succssa to the feelings and judgment of all The antiquity, the philosopher, the statist, the trader, all concur in paying reverence to that master-genius who developed with Mklinity the beauties of Nature and tb mae of Art. Impremed'with these opinions, I regret that the necessary limits of the present undertaking prevent my expatiating so largely a I would desire on so fertile a subject~ Confined to Man, I trust that, in every circumstance, my delint ations. Will, at any rate, be found to possess fidelity.
