En ce béni mois de juin 1887, nous avons goûté la fraîcheur d'une de nos oasis de mu sique, si désirables dans le désert où nous tirons piteusement la langue. Car notre Paris ignore Haendel, malgré les belles exécutions du Messie et de ]ua'as Macchaôëe, données par M. Lamou reux, il y a une douzaine d'années, et auxquelles, hélas! Je n'assistais point, la lumière n'ayant pas été faite alors dans ma misérable cervelle. Pour tant j'abominais l'opéra; ses pompes m'étaient en horreur, et cette instinctive répulsion trahis sait une âme prédestinée. Je devais un jour m'épanouir à la musique, me passionner pour les fugues. Loué soit Dieu!
