Much ingenuity also was displayed in the arrangement and shapes of the letters of the inscriptions. This will be seen at once by comparing the elegant record of Sikandar's reign, which was prepared by Zarz'n-a'ast, or the golden handed writer (plate XXVIII) with the formal arrangement of the club-headed letters of Masaud Jani's time (plate XXI), the barb-headed letters of Yusuf Shah's time, and the railing-like letters of Barbak Shah's time.
