Today in order to be able to move toward poverty alleviation and sustainable development, further knowledge of rural communities is demanded in view of their increasing complexity which flows from changes regarding environment, demography, production, and lifestyle. The author, based on his experience and observations, believes that the recent rural communities witness the erosion of their traditional rustic socioeconomic structures and values and in so doing, have knocked the nature off its axis by application of improper technology, use of detrimental inputs, excessive depletion of natural resources, and lack of a development agenda which would suit rural community requirements.
