English · Paperback / Softback

Description

Ten Central European countries are expected to join the EU in the first half of 2004. As these countries will not be allowed to "opt out" of the EMU, the question when and under what conditions they will introduce the euro arises. Adoption of the euro could be achieved through the "normal procedure" of meeting the Maastricht criteria and taking a seat in the ECB or via unilateral euroization. These options, as well as possible pit falls on the way to EMU membership are discussed in the book.
The publication is the result of the INFER workshop "The Euro in Eastern Europe: Options for the monetary and currency Regime" that was held on April 11th, 2003 in Berlin, Germany.
