Role of pulses in Indian agriculture needs hardly any emphasis India is a premier pulse growing country. The pulses are important constituents of the Indian diet and supply a major part of the protein requirement. Pulse crops besides being rich in protein and some of the essential amino acids enrich the soil through symbiotic nitrogen fixation from atmosphere. Moong (Green gram) has been known in this country for long time. It is said to be one of the oldest pulse known and cultivated from ancient times both in Asia and in Europe. According to Vavilov (1926) Green gram is a native of Indian and Central Asia. Inspite of all the concerned efforts green gram is lamenting over its poor profitability. This could be attributed to the fact that the required quantity of green gram is less due to the low productivity. Thus it is urgently need of to increase the productivity of Green gram for required level of supply to the people on one and prove its worth when compared with prevailing crops in the area on other hand. Thus the technology should be developed and constraints should be reduced on the basis of various categories of farmers.
