This collection of papers on literary, historical, and cultural issues is presented in honor of Prof. Albert Arazi of the Hebrew University, for his efforts in the elucidation of classical Arabic literature. His unique studies are of enormous significance in modern academic research, locally and internationally. We begin with a brief review of Prof. Arazi's education and academic life: He received his bachelor's degree from Léon University in France, in Arabic and French language and literature. He then went on to obtain his MA and Ph.D. at the Sorbonne in Paris, under the supervision of the orientalist Charles Pellat. Arazi's summa cum laude doctoral thesis, entitled Humor Poetry in the Abbasid Period in the 8th and 9th Centuries was submitted in 1974. In 1969, Arazi began to lecture in the Department of Arabic Language and Literature at the Hebrew University. He received an appointment to lecturer in 1976, senior lecturer in 1979, associate professor in 1983, and full professor in 1990. He retired in 2006.
