Applications of Mössbauer Spectroscopy in Mineralogy

Abundance of iron element in mineralogical and planetological objects facilitates their study by Mössbauer spectroscopy technique, which became an useful analytical tool in earth science and mineralogy. Mössbauer spectroscopy gives information about oxidation and magnetic states of iron components in minerals. The precise characterization of the valence state of iron allows mineralogists to solve several current problems of natural inorganic systems.

Jozef Sitek, professor at the Institute of Nuclear Physics and Technology, Faculty of Electrical Engineering and Information Technology, Slovak University of Technology in Bratislava.He works in the field of materials physics and applications of spectroscopic methods mainly Mössbauer spectroscopy.
