The overall emphasis of the proposed study is to have a better understanding of the fundamental issues pertaining to the sintering and consolidation of a range of ferrous alloys. Powder metallurgy (P/M) is a near net-shape manufacturing process offering many economical and ecological benefits for manufacturing small and medium-sized parts with little post-processing and high material utilization (95%). One of the key applications of this technique is in fabrication of components out of ferrous alloys for automotive applications.
