This book will give a close examination of Pegida, the refugee crisis and the EU in relation with German media. Furthermore, the position of these media towards the Dresden-based movement will be scrutinised and investigated to what extent the former affects the latter. Finally, this book concludes with the following research question: How can Pegida's evolvement be explained best and to what extent have Bild and Süddeutsche Zeitung contributed to or hampered the rise of the movement?

About the author










Guy Hoeks finished his bachelors at the University of Amsterdam with the focus on the European Union. He also studied at the Free University of Berlin and worked at the Embassy of the Netherlands in Prague. In 2016, Guy graduated from Leiden University in European Union Studies. He wrote his M.A. thesis on Pegida and now works as a journalist.
