This book is based on a field survey research done in the Trincomalee District, Sri Lanka on red onions production and marketing. Red onions are a major ingredient in the Sri Lankan diet and is consumed daily by households. A random sample of 100 red onion farmers in the Trincomalee District were studied on their problems in production and marketing onions produced. The results of the study indicated that red onions cultivation is a profitable venture for small-scale farmers, but there many problems faced in the activity. The major problems encountered by the farmers was the access to good quality seed onions for planting, credit for investment, irrigation facilities, lack of knowledge on better technology and high production costs involved.

Ponniah Sivarajah graduated with a B.Sc (Agriculture) degree from the University of Peradeniya, Sri Lanka; later did a M.Sc in Regional Development Planning at Asian Institute of Technology, Bangkok, Thailand and completed his PhD (Agricultural Economics) at the Tamil Nadu Agricultural University,India. He has about 30 years of teaching experience.
