This book focuses on the critical care of the patient with acute, acute on chronic and chronic liver failure as well as the peri-operative care of the patient with liver transplantation. Each of these disease processes is unique in pathophysiological manifestations, underpinnings of physiology and treatment options.
Patients with acute, chronic or acute on chronic liver failure are a growing fraction of ICU admissions. Hepatic Critical Care serves as the essential reference for both practicing intensivists at community hospitals and tertiary referral centers. This textbook is also targeted towards trainees specifically interested in taking care of patients with liver disease and liver transplantation.

Additional text

“This monograph covers the management of the critically ill patient with liver disease based on a summary of physiological alternations in this condition. … Because of its readability, this book is appropriate for postgraduate providers with all degrees of sophistication. …  This is an excellent overview of both the pathology of liver disease and the implications for other organ systems supported by the intensivist. Presentations are well written and summarize clinical problems and their management effectively.” (David J. Dries, Doody's Book Reviews, April, 2018)
“This book provides an overview of both the pathophysiological background of liver disease and its effects on other systems. It offers background knowledge and clinical management. It has an admirable didactic approach that is comprehensive enough to provide all essential information, while succinct enough to still be considered concise.” (Ashraf A. Dahaba and Helmar Bornemann-Cimenti, Anesthesia & Analgesia, Vol. 128 (1), January, 2019)
