The subject of this book is the civic activity of women in Poland. Choosing a research group is a deliberate choice - women as most empirical studies affirm, are socially disadvantaged and disadvantaged; they occupy lower social positions in most areas of the public sphere and are almost absent in decision-making positions. The disproportionately low presence of women in the public sphere is explained by the existence of institutional, social and cultural barriers. It also indicates lack of interest or willingness to engage in any activity in the public sphere, stereotypically assigning them tasks, functions and duties in the private sphere. All this results in the that the civic activity that women take or leave is limited by a number of additional barriers - not so much structural as cultural ones. This book concerning the relationship between gender and citizenship embedded in models of citizenship in Poland in the context of the social and political changes which occurred after the year 1989 (the end of communism, deregulation of the political system of PRL, the process of transformation of democracy, leadership and power).
