Tous ces documents, excepté cinq, sont inédits. Pour rendre notre recueil plus digne de la Société de l'histoire de F rance, nous n'avons omis aucune lettre. Nous aurions craint de dérober arbitrairement au lecteur, qui se sent toujours capable de faire son choix, une partie plus ou moins grande de l'oeuvre de Monluc. Pour nous d'ailleurs, qui depuis plusieurs années vivons dans un commerce in time avec l'auteur des Commentaires, toute mutilation eût été coupable il mérite les soins que l'on réserve ordinai foment aux grands écrivains.
