About the author

DAVID DOUBILET has explored underwater realms around the globe. He has photographed everything from squadrons of stingrays to the delicate, complex life of the coral reef. But much of his work focuses on the ocean's top predator -- the shark. A contributing and contract photographer for National Geographic since 1969, he has received many prestigious awards, including the Lowell Thomas Award and the Lennart Nilsson Award for Photography. He is an honorary member of the Royal Photographic Society.

JENNIFER HAYES is a marine biologist, feature writer, and underwater photographer. She is a contributing editor for many publications worldwide and a platinum professional diver with more than 7,000 dives in the sea.
