Au début de la mue, ces cellules basales entrent dans une période de multiplication active, leur noyau se divisant toute une série de fois par karyokinese. Ces karyokineses se succedent si rapide ment, que die Kernteilung eilt der Zellteilung voran, so daß mehr kernige bis vielkernige jugendliche Zellen reichlich beobachtet werden.
