Von dieser, der Diphthongierung palataler Vokale ist scharf zu trennen die wohl nach dem i-umlaut liegende Beein¿ussung velarer Vokale [di, ö, fü] durch anlautenden palatalen Konsonanten. In Betracht kommen hier nur wg. J ws. G und wg. Sk ws. 36. Über die Palatalisierung der Gruppe 30 vergleiche man Bülbring, Ae. El. 506 - 511, wo auch die weitere Literatur verzeichnet ist. Diese Wirkung der anlautenden Palatalis machte sich geltend in Einfügung eines palatalen Gleitlautes, der sich mit dem folgenden Vokal zu einem steigenden Diphthonge verband.
