Quanto da me fin qui fu narrato io scrissi dividendo ed ordinando come fu possibile i libri secondo i luoghi nei quali av vennero i fatti di guerra; i quali libri già messi a luce son divul gati per tutto nell' impero romano. I fatti susseguenti non saranno da me ordinati in questo stesso modo che ho detto, poichè non mi era più possibile combinarli cogli avvenimenti già resi di pub.
