Excerpt from Dissertationes Philologae Vindobonenses
Hoc opus Hertzius certo aliquo ordine, quod 'systema' vocare solemus, carnisse, immo libros singulos non ex singulis commentariis sed unum quemque e multifaria observationum seu capitum vel commentariolorum farragine compositum fuisse contendit, hac in re, ut mihi quidem videtur, iustum modum egressus id quod iam Mercklinius in 'berl. Jahrb. Fur wissenschaftl. Kritik' a. MDCCCXXXXVI., tom. I, p. 630 animadvertit, qui rectissime mihi haec dixisse videtur: 'e'ine eigentliche ars scheint, wie auch der Titel ausspricht, des Nigidius Werlc nicht gewesen zu sein ebenso wenig mag das Princip der Analogie, zu dem er sich belcannte iì.berall das leitende gewesen sein, aber auch so schimmert durch den zerrissenen Bau seiner Commentare eine Ordnung und Entwicklung hindurch.'
