Anti-Phytopathogenic Activity of Macroalgae Extracts Against Fungi

Macro-algae are found to be important sources of useful bioactive substances since two decades. Secondary or primary metabolites obtained from these organisms may be potential bioactive compounds of interest for the pharmacological industry. The main reasons for using algal extract as antifungal agents is their natural origin and low chance of pathogens developing resistance. They may have a minimum adverse effect on physiological processes of plants and less environmental hazards compared to their synthetic alternatives, being plant products are easily convertible into a common organic material (eco-friend).
