Petit de la Saussaye a donc essayé de réformer l'as semblage hétérogène des formes comprises par Lamarck dans le genre Pyrula Il a fait observer que l'on pou vait d'abord retirer des Pyrula un certain nombre de co quilles manifestement voisines des Purpura; puis, que les autres types conchyliologiques se réduisaient à 5 1° Pyrula, dont le type devient pour lui le Pyrula canali culata; 2° Melongena, type: P. Melongena; 5° Ficus, type: P. ¿ous; lr° Nov. Genus, type P. Papyracea 5° Nov. Genus, type: P. Lineata.
