Social work is defined as a profession which, on the basis of human rights and social justice, supports people in problem situations and seeks to influence developments in society. Professional activity requires an interplay of knowledge, ability and attitudes, reflected at personal, institutional and social levels. Theories and methods of reflection are thematised in this book, alongside the necessity of engaging professionals with their personal stake in the interaction as a fundamental component of their psychosocial activity.
The models of case- and situation-based reflection and the analysis of problems have been developed by the contributors and tested in practical social work. They provide a practice-based space for the planning and evaluation of work with clients and for the analysis of changes in underlying conditions in terms of their concrete effects. It is made clear which aspects professionals should use in order to successfully attain the relevant goals.
