About the author

Dr. J.C. Das is currently the President of Power System Studies, Inc. Snellville, USA. He headed the Electrical Power Systems Analysis Department at AMEC Inc., (now AMEC Foster Wheeler, Inc.) Tucker, GA, USA, for the last 30 years. He has varied experience in the utility industry, industrial establishments, hydroelectric generation, and atomic energy. He is responsible for power system studies, including short-circuit, load flow, harmonics, stability, arc-flash hazard, grounding, switching transients, EMTP simulations, and protective relaying. He conducts courses for continuing education in power systems and has authored or coauthored approximately 65 technical publications, six textbooks, and over 7,000 total published pages.

Summary

The book provides coverage of generation, effects, and control of harmonics, including interharmonics, measurements, and harmonic resonance and limitations. It explores the concepts of modeling filter designs and harmonic penetrations (propagations) in industrial, distribution, and transmission systems with SVC’s and FACTS controller applications.

Additional text

"This book covers in a systematic way the essential effect of harmonics on the power system. The content of the book is well organised: the subject matter is developed in a well-thought-out sequence; the text reads clear and coherent; and the generation, propagation, and estimation of harmonics are well explained. The governing standards to identify the allowed limits of harmonics, along with the remedial measures to contain and control harmonics within limits, are also discussed. The book furthermore features practical know-how that will benefit practicing engineers. All the essentials concerning harmonics are covered within this book."—S.A.
