About the author

Robert Rees Davies was a professor of medieval history at Oxford University, writing a number of works on Welsh medieval society and law.Ralph A. Griffiths OBE is Emeritus Professor of Medieval History at Swansea University, Honorary Vice-President of the Royal Historical Society, and formerly Chairman of the Royal Commission on the Ancient and Historical Monuments of Wales.Ieuan Gwynedd Jones is a Welsh historian.Kenneth O. Morgan is currently a Research Professor at King's College, London. A Fellow of the British Academy, and a member of the House of Lords since 2000, Lord Morgan is also an Honourable Fellow of The Queen's College, Oxford, and of Oriel College, Oxford, and a Fellow of the Universities of Swansea, Cardiff, Glamorgan. He has also held the positions of Vice-Chancellor of the University of Wales, Aberystwyth, and Senior Vice-Chancellor of the University of Wales.
