About the author

Seth Cantey is an Assistant Professor of Politics at Washington & Lee University, where he teaches and conducts research on issues related to international security, American foreign policy, and Middle East politics. His current book project explores how various negotiation strategies have affected outcomes in talks between states and non-state armed groups, especially in the Middle East and Latin America. He is the recipient of 5 Foreign Language and Area Studies fellowships, 3 Bradley fellowships, and a Manfred Wörner fellowship from the US German Marshall Fund. Before joining Washington & Lee, Seth earned a Ph.D. and M.A. in Political Science from Duke University, an M.A. in Latin American Studies from Georgetown University, and a B.A. in Psychology and Spanish from Bucknell University. An avid traveler, he speaks Arabic, Spanish, and Portuguese.
