'Admirably clear without being condescending ..., I would use it and
recommend my CPE/Diploma students buy it.'

Julian Myerscough, Lecturer in Law, University of East Anglia.

'The structure - legal context and background, the facts, working through the case - is excellent.'
Mark Davys, Senior Teaching Fellow in Law, Keele University.

The law “conversion” course is a challenging yet rewarding first step to becoming a solicitor or barrister. As a GDL or CPE student you’ll know that fitting all seven foundation subjects into a one or two year course is going to be tough but the reward is that conversion course graduates are more successful in securing vocational training  and eventually becoming lawyers than their LLB counterparts.

This new book has been designed specifically for students grappling with the intense nature of the CPE/GDL. It introduces you to the landmark cases, the related key legal principles and puts each legal rule in context within each of the seven qualifying  foundation subjects. It gives a clear overview of what each subject is all about without skimping on depth or detail helping you to understand the discipline as a whole. Use it as a good introduction to law before you start your course or as a handy guide when tackling each subject in turn.

Covering each of the core law subjects, cases are discussed and connected in:

  • Criminal Law
  • Constitutional and Administrative Law
  • European Union Law
  • Contract Law
  • Tort Law
  • Equity and Trusts
  • Land Law
