Pnsvxous to the war which ended in the independence of the United States, that country was supplied from England with most articles which were required ibr domestic comfort or household decoration. Although the industry and skill of the Americans have subsequently been exerted on home manufactures as substitutes for these foreign commodities, yet such has been the grow ing prosperity of both countries since that period, that the average annual amount of the exports from England to the United States of America, is now much more than quadruple what it was between the years 1750 and 1760.
