Excerpt from The Revised Reports, Vol. 4: Being a Republication of Such Cases in the English Courts of Common Law and Equity, From the Year 1785, as Are Still of Practical Utility; 1796-1799
Tms volume brings us close upon the end of the eighteenth century. It is perhaps not rich in leading cases of the first rank, but it contains many of great importance. Morton v. Lamb is one of the best known and most profitable in the learning of dependent and independent promises. Gordon v. Harper is a landmark in the law of possessory remedies. Attorney General v. Bowyer has, for Cambridge men at any rate, more than professional interest, as recording the singularly prolonged travail with which Downing College (only of late years well past the troubles of its infancy) was born.
