The development of non-conventional, sustainable and clean energy resources has become crucial. Considering all the diverse and fast-depleting energy alternatives, electrochemical energy conversion is one of the most realistic options. Indian government is thoughtful on boosting solar to electricity production and other renewable energy resources with the setup of a National Solar Mission to make India as a global leader in solar energy and have targeted for 500 GW power production through solar energy by 2030. ZnSe is an attractive material as the window layer for CuInSe2, CuGaSe2, Cu2S, InP and CdTe based hetero junction solar cells. In this sense, ZnSe is an alternative option for CdS as it has ecofriendly nature, a wider band gap, higher transparency and ability to provide a better lattice matching with CIGS and other absorber layers. This book presents our main objectives to synthesize the ZnSe and Zn-Cr-Se thin films and to use them as the electrode in electrochemical photovoltaic cells to determine its suitability for the next-generation applications.

Prof. L.P. Deshmukh, Ex. Director, School of Physical Sciences, Solapur University is a Thin Film Physicist, distinguished INSA Awardee & UGC Visiting Professor. He is recipient of many prestigious awards and is also a Fellow Member of several professional bodies. He has given significant contribution in the development of PV solar cell technology.
