The Prix Ars Electronica is the most tradition-steeped media art competition in the world. Announced annually since 1987, due to its continuity and the large number and high quality of the submissions, it is considered a trend barometer of global media art. With numerous images, texts, and statements by the jury, the book assembles those works that were awarded prizes in 2017 in the categories of Computer Animation / Film / VFX, Digital Communities, Interactive Art, and u19-Create Your World. A Golden Nica was also awarded for the fourth time in the category of "Visionary Pioneers of Media Art." The volume also contains a "best of" list of the STARTS Prize awarded on behalf of the European Commission. The highly remunerated competition focuses on innovative projects at the interface between science, technology, and art (= Science, Technology, and the ARTS).

Festival dates: Ars Electronica Festival, Linz 7.-11.9.2017
