Bernhard wurde von Ebolus II., Vizgrafen von Ven tadorn erzogen, fiir dessen Persönlichkeit und poetische Begabung die beiden bekannten Stellen in der Chronik des Gaufredus Vosiensis als Zeugniss aufgeführt wer den, die bei Bouquet XII, 424 u. 445 nachzulesen Seine Gemahlin war Agnes v. Montlucon und diese war es, der Bernhard seine ersten Lieder widmete, die er wie alle drei Schriften sagen, als Bel Vezer oder Aziman feierte. Das Verhältniss wurde entdeckt; Bern hard verliess den Hof des Ebolus und wandte sich nach der Normandie, wo ihn Eleonore mächtig anzog.
