Kirsten Burke has been a professional calligrapher for more than twenty years and is one of the leading lettering artists working in the UK. After qualifying with a degree in graphic design, Kirsten completed a postgrad course in traditional calligraphy, illuminated lettering, gilding and bookbinding. What she loved most was experimentation, making bold, vibrant contemporary artworks and making pictures out of words.

In 1997, Kirsten and her friend Jill Hembling set up The Modern Calligraphy Company and Kirsten became the 'Master Calligrapher' for Estee Lauder luxury brands including Jo Malone, Tom Ford, Creme de la Mer, Bobby Brown and Rolls Royce.

Kirsten Burke Design has been commissioned to do work on behalf of clients including HM The Queen, the President of China, BBC, Shakespeare's Globe Theatre, Grey Goose Vodka, Harley Davidson and The Guardian. The company has sold more than 10 million greeting cards nationwide via shops including John Lewis, WH Smith, Waitrose, Harrods, Fenwick and Liberty.

The Modern Calligraphy company is now the best-trusted calligraphy company in the UK, with more than 70 calligraphers running workshops nationwide. In 2020, they launched live stream workshops with great success, and are now teaching budding calligraphers all over the world.
