Ojos azules / Blue Eyes

Arturo Pérez-Reverte recrea en esta breve narración uno de los episodios más dramáticos de la conquista de México: la llamada "Noche Triste". Entre fango, lluvia y sangre, el Destino se abre paso en una noche en que la muerte no da tregua.La noche del 30 de junio de 1520 tuvo lugar en las afueras de Tenochtitlán el mayor desastre sufrido por las huestes de Hernán Cortés durante la conquista de México. En su retirada, los soldados españoles, castigados por la lluvia, avanzando por los puentes y entre el barro, debieron elegir entre el botín o la vida; abandonar el lastre de oro y riquezas que tantos peligros, sudor y sangre había costado era su única posibilidad de escapar.

Sin embargo, no es fácil dejar atrás la esperanza de un futuro mejor. En Ojos azules, peleando por su vida, un soldado de mirada añil sueña con lo sucedido y por suceder, mientras combate y carga con el talego de oro en el que pesa todo su porvenir.

Pérez-Reverte recreates one of the most historical battles in Mexico's conquest, the so called "Sad Night". Surrounded by mud, rain, and blood, Fate has a breakthrough on a night when death seems to give no truce.

On the evening of June 30th, 1520, in the outskirts of Tenochtitlán, Mexico suffered the greatest tragedy at the hands of Hernán Cortés during its conquest.

The Aztecs taste and relish their next revenge, while the Spaniards are ready to flee under the rain leaving behind the promise of gold for which they crossed the ocean; they must choose, to either take the loot for which so many fought and died for, or flee and save their own lives.

But, it's not easy leaving behind the hope of a better future. While fighting for his life, a blue-eyed soldier is not willing to drop the sack full of precious metal; as he dreams of what could be, he fights on while carrying the gold bag filled with the weight of his future.

About the author

Arturo Perez-Reverte, geboren 1951 in Cartagena, gilt seit Mitte der achtziger Jahre als einer der größten spanischen Autoren. Über zwanzig Jahre hat er als Journalist gearbeitet, bevor er erste Romane schrieb, die schon bald mit zahlreichen Literaturpreisen ausgezeichnete Bestseller wurden. Sein Roman "Der Club Dumas" wurde 1999 von Roman Polanski unter dem Titel "Die neun Pforten" mit Johnny Depp in der Hauptrolle verfilmt.
