Migratory birds arrive in the rural ponds in Haryana from far off places like Siberia, Northern Asia, Southern China and Caspian Sea, Tibet and Himalayan region for their winter sojourn. These winter migratory birds are confronting with very adverse circumstances due to the extremely bad shape of ponds, year after year. The scenario is pathetic. Given the rate and speed of current damage being done to rural ponds, by the year 2025, there shall be no more traditional rural ponds left over in Haryana. Eutrophication due to hyacinth over growth is the principal cause of depletion of ponds. Expansion of village outskirts, merging of villages with adjoining towns and cities have brought pressure on each and everyone to blind by convert ponds into habitable land. Earlier, rural ponds were revered by the villagers under the customs, rituals and ethics prescribed by age old societal behavior patterns. However, now unethical acts committed and practiced by the semi-literates are spelling disaster to the conditions.
