The book is meant to expose the reader to some of the problems that are caused by the HIV pandemics in Kenya. It explores some of the HIV-1 subtypes and the mutations they undergo. The subtypes mentioned are the most prevalent in western Kenya as per this study though there is also mentioning of some others that have been documented. It also gives a probable explanation why some of the subtypes found here have close resemblance with, the subtypes found in other places like Uganda. There is also a clear phylogentic analysis of the HIV subtypes and this is illustrated using phylogenetic tree. Lastly, there is a clear description of the methodology used to do subtyping and also determine the mutations that occur in the HIV and those that confer drug resistance.
