Informationen zum Autor Mário Barbosa is Professor Catedrático at Instituto de Ciências Biomédicas Abel Salazar (ICBAS), University of Porto. He is internationally recognized for his contributions to biomaterials science, particularly in cell-biomaterial interactions. The interaction of cells and proteins with biomaterials at the molecular level have been extensively studied by his group. His most recent investigations focus on the interplay between inflammation and tissue regeneration, namely through the use of immunomodulatory microenvironments, including artificial biomimetic matrices. He is the Director of the i3S (Instituto de Investigação e Inovação em Saúde da Universidade do Porto), was one of the founding members of Instituto de Engenharia Biomédica (INEB), and its President in 2000-2006 and 2010-2012. He is a Fellow of the International Union of Societies for Biomaterials Science and Engineering. In 2001 he received the George Winter Award of the European Society for Biomaterials (ESB). He is the Director of the Doctoral Programme on Molecular and Cellular Biotechnology Applied to Health Sciences. M Cristina L Martins is an expert in surface modifications at nanoscale to guide specific biological interactions, such as selective protein/cell binding, to avoid biomaterial-associated thrombosis and infection. She obtained her PhD in Engineering Sciences from the Faculty of Engineering of the University of Porto (FEUP) in 2003 and in 2005, she became researcher at INEB (Instituto de Engenharia Biomédica). She is the coordinator of the BioEngineered Surfaces Group at i3S (Instituto de Investigação e Inovação em Saúde) and Affiliated Professor at Instituto de Ciências Biomédicas Abel Salazar (ICBAS) of the University of Porto. Klappentext Peptides and Proteins as Biomaterials for Tissue Regeneration and Repair highlights the various important considerations that go into biomaterial development, both in terms of fundamentals and applications. After covering a general introduction to protein and cell interactions with biomaterials, the book discusses proteins in biomaterials that mimic the extracellular matrix (ECM). The properties, fabrication and application of peptide biomaterials and protein-based biomaterials are discussed in addition to in vivo and in vitro studies. This book is a valuable resource for researchers, scientists and advanced students interested in biomaterials science, chemistry, molecular biology and nanotechnology. Inhaltsverzeichnis 1.
