About the author

Richard Cust is Professor of Early Modern History at the University of Birmingham. He is the author of Charles I: A Political Life (2005), and he is a Fellow of the Royal Historical Society.

This perspective on the troubled relationship between Charles I and the English aristocracy explores the effectiveness of Charles' efforts to cultivate and strengthen the peerage.
