Ces schistes argilo-gréseux présentent un faciès remarquablement uniforme, ils ont été découverts entre Na - Ché et yen-lac, feuille de That - Khé, par M. Le Capitaine Zeil et par nous a Na - Po, feuille de Cao - Bang; M. Bouvier, Contrôleur des mines, en a signalé la présence, tout récemment à Cho - Moi, feuille de tuyén-quang. Ces schistes ont été observés ainsi en trois points à peu près équidistants et disposés suivant une direction N. E. Sur une distance d'environ deux cents kilomètres leur extension doit être beaucoup plus considérable.
