About the author










A translator and writer, Maria José Silveira's first novel, Her Mother's Mother's Mother and Her Daughters, won a major Brazilian literary award and the rights were purchased by TV Globo. Since then, she has written six other books--including a couple highly praised YA titles--along with three plays.
Eric M. B. Becker is editor of Words without Borders and an award-winning journalist and literary translator. He received a PEN/Heim Translation grant for his work on Mia Couto, and has also translated works by Lygia Fagundes Telles, Carlos Drummond de Andrade, Elvira Vigna, Noemi Jaffe, and others.
